Swanson Gotu Kola is a plant known as Centella native to the wetlands of Asia (Shi Lanka, India and China), Australia and Southern USA. Gotu Kola is characterised by its small fan-shaped green leaves with white or purple/pink flowers and small oval fruit. In Sinhalese, gotu is translated as “conical shape” and kola as “leaf”.
Used in many Asian dishes. Gotu Kola has also had a long history of use in ancient healing (Ayurvedic medicine) for its therapeutic benefits in skin disorders including burns and wounds. Research into the herb has concluded that its internal benefits are due to the component chemicals called triterpenes which work to stimulate the formation of collagen in bones, cartilage and connective tissue.
